The First Edition

Our first edition is from the Dominican Republic, aged 5 years in ex-bourbon barrels with a hint of oloroso, then aged for 2 additional years in ex-Cognac barrels.

The flavor profile opens with warm oak, dried fruit, soft spice, and toffee, revealing itself slowly in the glass.

Enjoy it neat, on the rocks, or reimagine rum in your favorite cocktail—like a Smoked Manhattan or an Espresso Martini.

Three Hearts Rum first edition bottle

“Three Hearts is less about establishing a new brand and more about documenting the craft, the generational tradition, and the people behind it. The packaging, the story, all of it points back to them. That felt more important to us than putting some modern spin on it.”

Color
Johnny wanted the color of the Caribbean Sea.

At the shore, the water blends turquoise and emerald green. Toward the horizon, it turns blue.

While working on a film in Spain, Johnny finalized the color after many iterations.

As light passes through the empty bottle, a silhouette appears with the colors of the Caribbean Sea inside.
Island Flag
Embossed into the bottle is the flag of his island. Its symbols are drawn from his own tattoos, each carrying a deeply personal meaning.
Skull
The skull, tattooed on the inside of his arm, is a reminder of life’s brevity and the importance to live life.
Lightning Bolt
Lightning bolt, tattooed on the top of his hand.

Represents his sacred friendship with Patti Smith, someone he truly admires.
Hearts
The three hearts represent the three loves of Johnny’s life. Many years ago, each of them drew a heart by hand. Johnny later had their three hearts tattooed on the inside of his bicep.

The bottle was designed to rest on its side. As the rum recedes, the hearts become more prominent.

The Three Hearts medallion was designed in London.

Inscribed on its reverse are the words Amor Vincit Omnia—Love Conquers All.
Number 3
The number 3 represents the beginning of creation.

Man. Woman. Child.
Base Motto
"No fear, no malice, no envy."

These words were handwritten on a small piece of paper on Johnny's table. When our cofounder Steve said those words really resonated with him, Johnny picked up a Sharpie, wrote "Our Motto" above them, signed his name below, and handed him the note.

Johnny chose to place the motto on the bottom of our bottle.
Tax Stamp
Drawn from a 150-year-old archive of antique designs, the label feels discovered rather than created.

Inspired by Johnny’s love of Prohibition era aesthetics and his Kentucky roots, every intricate detail feels rare, authentic and earned a certificate of legitimacy.
Cork
Johnny wanted a real cork from the beginning.

The beveled design made the markings difficult to produce, but we eventually found a cork maker in Portugal that could do it.

The top is marked with Three Hearts.

Around the edge is the Latin phrase Res Ipsa Loquitur — The thing speaks for itself.

Future releases may feature different symbols and inscriptions meaningful to Johnny.
Neck Charms
Hand-assembled in Italy, intended as a gift.

Leather cord, beads and a turquoise bead engraved with his signature.

A compass rose, with words across read “Res Ipsa Loquitur.”
Thing Speaks For Itself.

The back of the piece of eight:
“Veritas Numquam Perit”
Truth never perishes.

Coin
Inscribed on the reverse side of the coin are the words Veritas Numquam Perit — Latin for "The truth never perishes."
